- The 1910 Harnett Co., NC census lists John W. Stephenson, Joseph Stephenson and their families.
Living with John W. is his mother, Landis Stephenson, age 75. The 1870 Harnett Co. census shows S. D. Stephens with wife Landis (or something that looks like Landis) age 34, so she's likely the same person. (It also shows a "Sarah", age 74, probably the mother of S. D) The census taker apparently made a mistake in listing the name as "Stephens".
A search for a "Sarah Stephenson" in the 1850 census finds only one. It finds her in Cumberland Co. (Harnett Co. was created out of Cumberland in 1855) and it shows the following:
Josiah Stephenson, age 56
Sarah, age 54
Silas D., age 20
Ramsey (?) D., age 16 (male)
Adaline, age 12 (female)
Silas D. is likely S.D. The dates work out: Silas D. was about 20 in the 1850 census, and S.D. is 41 in the 1870 census. Sarah was 54 in the 1850 census and 74 in the 1870 census.
