Notes - Per Jacob Carpenter, 10/22:
Description: Sarah Massey was born in Brunswick County, Virginia. She married (Ensign) William Avent I (died before August 1761) of Sussex County before 1742, the year their eldest daughter, Olive Avent (Mrs. Solomon Fuller, Senior) (about 1742-26 February 1816), was born. Sarah died after 24 June 1765 in Northampton County, North Carolina.
=================================================
Sarah's Massie family has been traced back (using solid sources) to the conquest in England, and was related to numerous families in the English aristocracy. See "Massey Genealogy 2000", by William M. Massey, Jr. Her great-great grandfather, William Massie, known as "Sir William Massey", was knighted by King James at Chester in 1617.
from Avant, SCF:
"That Sarah, wife of William Avent, was a daughter of Joseph Massie of nearby Brunswick County, appears from the will of the latter, dated the 19th of August 1760 and proved 26 May 1761 [Brunswick Co. Wills 3:368], which leaves her a negro boy named Ned.
Sarah (Massie) Avent and Amey (Massie) Avent, wife of Peter Avent, were sisters, but while Peter and not Amey Avent is named in the estate accounting returned the 24th of June 17 65 [id. 3:431], Sarah and not William Avent is named because Peter was alive while William was already dead."
