Richard began life as BOHANNAN. In 1790 census is listed as BOKHANAN, in the 1800 census as
BAHANNAN, and in 1805 in his will is listed as BUCHANAN. All of his descendants use the spelling BUCHANAN. Richard's middle name may have been Abner. (There are references to this man as Abner.) However, in one case, the author claims Abner and Elizabeth had 6 children and came from Scotland after the Rev. War. In the other case, the author claims that Abner and Elizabeth Minter were probably from Pa. In the last case, another author disclaims Abner and Elizabeth Minter as the parents of our Joseph. She claims Joseph and Abner were the sons of Richard and Elizabeth.
Will of Richard Bohannan/Buchanan is on file at Raleigh. --Elizabeth, wife, Abner son, Elizabeth Griffis dau., wife of Pleasant Griffis, Sarah Buchanan dau., Joseph Buchanan son, May Buchanan son, Susannah Chapman dau. wife of James Chapman, Frances Griffis dau. wife of Herbert Griffis, Files: Pleasant and Elizabeth Griffis, Sarah Buchanan, Frances and Herbert Griffis of Smith co, Tenn and James Chapman from WIlson co, Tenn.
