Richard first appears in the records of Charles City Co., VA in 1693.
Richard Massey emigrated to VA summer of 1684, his family joining him by 1690-91. By 1702 he was well est'd in Charles City Co., VA and was serving as a Pvt in Capt. Joseph Wynn's company of dragoons. Had 3 sons: Hezekiah (settled in Granville Co., NC) , Joseph and Richard (both settled in Brunswick Co., VA). Each son left a will: Hezekiah, 1727, Bertie Co., NC, Joseph, 1760, and Richard, 1740, both in Brunswick Co., VA.
