- Georgia Marriages to 1850
Name: William Avent
Spouse: Hannah Goolsby
Marriage Date: 5 Feb 1823
Marriage County: Oglethorpe
Marriage State: Georgia
The Peter Avent in Talbot Co GA would have probably been a grandson of Col Thomas and not his son Peter who died in 1779 in NC. The 1830 Talbot Co census shows Peter Avent's son William having a man 70-80 years old b. 1750-1760 living in his household who could be Peter Avent, William's father. An earlier Peter Avent married Elizabeth Sims in Brunswick CO VA in 1774 but not sure if this is the same one that later lived in Talbot Co. Col Thomas' son Peter had sons Isham and William who witnessed a deed in Brunswick Co in 1769.

from descendant Roger Harris, 9 Feb 2009:
"He's in Terrell County for the 1860 census. This page of the 1860 Terrell County (Ga.) census (Page 6) shows the date "June 5, 1860." William's name is the very last name on that page. His age is given as "58," and his occupation is that of "druggist" (as far as I can tell). Birthplace is North Carolina. At the top of the next page of the census (Page 7), the members of the household are shown as Anna (60) and children: Martha, Sarah, James B., Amanda, and W.C.Avent (Avant). It appears that the son "W.C." is living in his father's household with his wife and child. Interestingly enough, "W.C." is identified as a doctor (M.D.), and I have seen at least one reference to his being enrolled at the Botanico Medical College of Georgia. (The school doesn't exist now.)
On August 9, 1860 (only two months after we see William in the 1860 census), James B. Avent (son of William) makes an application for letters of administration on the estate of William Avent "deceased." There are various document signed at about this same time by James B. Avent and his brothers Robert and W.C. Avent."
