- from Garland Avent, in Avant Southern Col Fam:: In Edgecombe Co. NC by 1777. Acquired large land holdings in what was to become Nash Co., NC and the settlement came to be known as Aventon. He died in 1811 leaving orphans Elizabeth, Francis, Nancy and William. His other children were James, Thomas, Polly, Benjamin Ward, Rebecca Powell, and Priscilla Kimball.
