Three of the brothers served in the military during WWII: Howard as a B-25 tail gunner in the 14th Air Force in China (this outfit was formerly known as the Flying Tigers), flying over 60 combat missions, Doug in the Navy in the South Pacific, and Bill in the Army. Clyde was a NC State Trooper who was killed in the line of duty in Nash Co., NC, in 1949. The overpass of NC 64 over I95 in Nash Co. is named in his honor. |
